The Challenge
Supervisors in local government sit at the intersection of policy, people, service delivery, and community expectations. Many step into leadership because of their technical expertise, but quickly find themselves managing complex employee relations, competing priorities, changing expectations, and the day-to-day realities of leading diverse teams in a public-sector environment.
The Local Government Management Association of BC recognized an opportunity to better equip both new and experienced supervisors with the practical leadership skills, confidence, and tools needed to lead well. They were seeking a trusted partner who understood the realities of the sector and could create virtual learning that was relevant, engaging, and immediately applicable on the job.
Solutions Implemented
Since 2020, Cinga Leadership has partnered with the organization to design and deliver 3 practical leadership series for supervisors at different stages of their leadership journey.
The programming includes:
• Supervisor Essentials for frontline leaders building their core people-leadership skills
• Advanced Supervisor Essentials for more experienced supervisors navigating greater complexity, accountability, and team performance challenges
• Coaching Essentials to help supervisors strengthen coaching conversations, support employee growth, and build greater ownership within their teams
Each series is grounded in the realities of local government, using relevant examples, peer discussion, and practical tools leaders can apply immediately in their workplaces.
